‘Parents and Carers – part time work opportunities to fit around you’balance 1372677 1920

Recent research carried out by the Association of School and College Leaders has urged schools to offer flexible working opportunities to their teachers.

With the ongoing teacher recruitment struggle it is now more important than ever for schools to empower their teachers to remain in the profession, particularly when they have other responsibilities such as children or dependants. One way of achieving this is to offer flexible opportunities which fit around existing commitments.

The research confirmed that around 73% of teachers are female and that of these approximately 6,000 leave the profession between the ages of 30 and 39 in order to look after their families. Sadly only half ever return.

At a time where schools are struggling to attract and retain talent, it is vital that they offer these flexible working arrangements. Here at North Yorkshire County Council we are ahead of the game and recognise the importance of offering such opportunities as a means of retaining the best teachers possible to deliver a good education for our school children.

In order to showcase our commitment to being a flexible employer we also offer salary sacrifice childcare vouchers as well as parental leave, maternity leave, adoption leave and dependants leave.

Due to the size and scope of our county our schools offer a wide variety of roles on a full time and part time basis which are suitable for those with other commitments. So, whether you are a carer or a parent we have opportunities that will fit around you and your family.
